Promote high quality recycling

The term ‘recycling’ needs to be qualified. Too many waste resources lose significant value when they are turned into secondary raw materials. This is because the materials in the waste resource streams lose part of their specific properties (e.g. strength, colour, traceability) in the current recycling processes.

A circular economy is an economy of high-value and high-quality secondary raw materials. In order to get there, we need to collaborate in developing ever more advanced recycling technologies, which preserve the value of the collected resources.

Copenhagen has a role to play in this development as we can source the waste materials needed for tests and development as well as function as a “real-life” testbed for new solutions. Furthermore, we own a test sorting facility, which can function as a platform for technology development.
